When you schedule personal training sessions you’re paying for expert guidance—so it’s important to know your trainer’s experience and qualifications. When it comes to education and professional experience, you won’t find someone with a more solid background than Sarah.
Academic Foundations For a Science-Based Approach
Sarah has always been interested in health and science which provides her the foundation for working as a personal fitness trainer and health coach. She earned her Bachelor’s of Science in Exercise Physiology and Kinesiology from Northern Illinois University–and later returned to earn a Master’s of Science in Physical Education with endorsements in both Science and Health Education. When you are working with Sarah, you’re not only working with a personal trainer with 15 years of professional experience, you are working with a teacher and mentor as well.
Sarah’s background in physiology and kinesiology gives her an intimate understanding of how your body functions and the mechanics of how you move. In addition, her experience in physical education gives her the skills to develop and administer a long-term health and exercise plan that is tailored to your body’s needs.
This sort of background is rare—often, personal trainers tend to have limited educational history specific to exercise and personal health–which can result in injury, unbalanced workouts, and unnecessary strain on your body.
All too often, trainers learn how to do but not how to teach—lacking knowledge of the methods needed to adapt workouts to individual’s specific needs. Cases like these can result in more harm than good—what if your trainer is prescribing strenuous workouts that give you muscle growth now but are bad for your joints later down the road?
Working with Sarah, you’ll be provided with a science-based approach to your workout regimen. In particular, she develops your workout routines in accordance with the guidelines laid out by the American College of Sports Medicine.
This adherence means that your workouts will develop your full range of personal fitness–muscular strength, cardiovascular and respiratory health, flexibility, balance, agility and coordination–thus allowing you to enjoy your life to the fullest.
For you, the attention paid to those different areas translates into a more complete picture of health and fitness: you’ll not only be stronger and leaner, you will also have more stamina and energy.
In other words, Sarah’s background gives you a trainer who provides you with effective, efficient, and injury-free results through scientific research about health and exercise.
A Long History of Hands-On Experience
Although educated, Sarah hasn’t spent all her time sitting in a classroom—she has over 20 years of professional experience developing her understanding of the human body and how to help people take care of it.
Sarah started her career working as an emergency medical technician at both Kishwaukee Hospital in DeKalb, Illinois and Mercy Hospital in Aurora, Illinois. This was her first hands-on experience with caring for others’ personal health and putting to her knowledge about the workings of the human body to use.
After earning her teacher certification in physical education and health, she spent 6 years teaching K-12 students about the importance of self-care. She has also served as the strength and conditioning coach for the Women’s Rugby team at Northern Illinois University and taught undergraduate exercise physiology and cardiac stress-testing lab courses. Through these lab courses Sarah introduced NIU students to the methods used to administer exercise tests; knowledge they would later use working with world class athletes, people with medical conditions and those recovering from heart attacks.
Over the course of her career, Sarah has continually helped people meet and exceed their health and fitness goals. Ranging in age from 4 to 94, Sarah has worked with people from all walks of life and levels of health and fitness. Whether you are looking to lose weight and sculpt muscle, or are looking to alleviate symptoms of multiple sclerosis, cancer, diabetes, osteoporosis, or arthritis, Sarah’s wealth of experience, expertise and knowledge can help you achieve the results you want.
Given Sarah’s accumulated years of knowledge from both rigorous academic education and hands-on experience, you can trust her to give you the workout plan most effective for your unique situation.
